After four rounds of negotiations held between Ukrainian oppositional leaders and Yanukovich and amid deepening political crisis in the country and confrontations between the protesters and security forces and seizing of power by the revolutionaries in several regions of Ukraine, Ukrainian Parliament have gathered for the urgent session on Tuesday, 28 January. This parliamentary session was expected to be a decisive one, as parliamentarians had to discuss the current situation in the country in order to find the solution. In addition to that there were fears about voting for imposing state of emergency in Ukraine.

Ukrainian oppositional leaders Arseny Yatsenyuk, Oleh Tyagnybok and Vitaly Klichko are calling for the fresh consecutive million-man march to be held on Sunday, 29 December, in Kyiv’s Independence Square and in other Ukrainian cities as well.

Traditional Sunday’s rally of Ukrainian in Independence Square will be held this time under the motto “Solidarity against terror” and will express the key demands of Ukrainian anti-government protesters and show solidarity with the victims of recent attacks.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov will participate in the official meeting of Customs Union Council to be held in Moscow on 24 December, according to the statement of Cabinet of Ministers press service. It’s worth mentioning that earlier it was announced that President Victor Yanukovich will represent Ukraine on this meeting.

According to the official program of visit of Mr. Azarov to Moscow, published on the web site of Ukrainian government, Ukrainian Prime Minister will arrive in Moscow at 2 p.m. Moscow time. He will participate in the meeting of the representatives of the Highest Eurasian economic Council which is being held on the level of the states’ heads. The meeting is expected to be held in Kremlin Palace in Moscow.

Ukraine: Vitaly Klichko demands to hold early presidential elections while opposition gathers signatures for non-confidence motion of the government

One of the leaders of Ukrainian opposition, Vitaly Klichko, stated on Tuesday, 17 December, that the only one possible political solution of the current deepening crisis in Ukraine is holding early presidential and parliamentary elections. He made this statement after closure of today’s Parliament’s session.

Vitaly Klichko demands early presidential elections to be held in March 2014. He is also confident, that it’s impossible to resolve any questions on the agenda until the main issue will be resolved – early elections.

Ukrainian current President Victor Yanukovich claimed during the recent round table, that he is ready for the early elections and there is nothing to fear, so let him prove it, stated Vitaly Klichko. Opposition though still doesn’t have a joint candidate for the possible presidential elections.

Meanwhile opposition continues its work regarding non-confidence motion of Ukrainian government. As an attempt to vote for this decision in Parliament at the beginning of December failed, opposition is gathering the signatures of parliamentarians for non-confidence and resignation of Mykola Azarov and current government.

Ukrainian opposition and public activists and representatives of the protesters of Maidan have met on Friday, 6 December, on the press-conference and discussed their roadmap and the further steps.

Ukrainian activists, artists, journalists, intellectuals and prominent persons have signed a joint petition to Ukrainian opposition voicing the demands of the people protesting on Independence Square and all over Ukraine and containing propositions to the opposition regarding the next steps.

Ukrainian government declared on Wednesday that it is ready to hold negotiations with the representatives of the oppositional forces in order to find the way out of the current crisis, according to the statement of Sergiy Arbuzon, Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mr. Arbuzov stated that government is ready to negotiate even the possibility of early parliamentary and presidential elections if these offers will be made officially.

Situation on Ukraine where the massive anti-government protests sparked after failure of Vilnius Summit and signing of the Association Agreement with EU and violent dispersal of peaceful demonstrators on Independence Square in Kyiv. Tens of thousands are protesting in Kyiv and blocking the key administrative buildings such as Cabinet of Ministers, Parliament, Kyiv City Council, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Education. Huge demonstrations continue in other cities all over the country as well.

After Tuesday’s failure of Ukrainian opposition to vote for the non-confidence motion to the government and for the resignation of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and his Cabinet of Ministers in Parliament the protests didn’t reduce with more people gathering in the capital for the protests and many arriving to Kyiv from other regions of Ukraine.

EU doesn’t confirm visit of Ukrainian delegation and states EU isn’t ready for the negotiations over Association Agreement

EU is not planning to open the new rounds of negotiations with Ukrainian government over the text of the already initialed Association and Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and European Union, stated Maja Kosjancic, official spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, head of EU diplomacy. In addition to that Mrs. Kosjancicdidn’t confirm also official visit of Ukrainian delegation to Brussels, which was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on Tuesday during the emergency session of Parliament.

According to the words of Catherine Ashton’s representatives there are also no talks in EU regarding compensations for Ukraine in case it will sign an Association Agreement.

Ukrainian Parliament failed to vote for government’s resignation amid the continuous massive protests all over Ukraine

Tens of thousands of protesters have gathered since the morning on Tuesday in front of the building of Ukrainian Parliament as the Parliament was expected to discuss the non-confidence motion to the government and its resignation initiated recently by the oppositional forces.

People have filled all the area in front of the Parliament, though the situation is tense with the alternative meeting of Yanukovich’s and government’s supporters gathered in front of the Parliament as well. There were reportedly nearly 150 people among the supporters of the current authorities; they were cordoned by the police forces in order to avoid their mixing with the anti-governmental protests. Additional security forces have been deployed on the scene with the entrances to the building blocked and lines of riot police and special forces “Berkut” and standing in front of the protesters.

Ukrainian revolution is ongoing for the second day with tens of thousands of people protesting in downtown Kyiv and in other cities all over Ukraine and several administrative buildings taken by protesters.

Massive rally against Ukrainian current authorities and President Victor Yanukovich has started in Ukraine on Sunday, 1 December, after riot police and security forces have violently beaten the peaceful protesters in the sit-in on Independence Square in Kyiv. According to the estimations of the journalists and participants of the protests there were between 750 thousand and 1 million people in Ukrainian capital. Tens of thousands of Ukrainians are protesting in other cities as well including Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and other cities, even in Southern and Eastern regions, the regions traditionally supporting Victor Yanukovich and his political power.

After Monday’s addressing the people of Ukraine Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich has met with several journalists in order to give them the promised interview, answer the questions and explain the details of the recent decisions of the government regarding the suspending of the process of preparing to the signing of the Association Agreement with the countries of EU.

In his Monday’s speech President has reassured Ukrainian citizens and international community following the events in Ukraine that the political course for European integration remains stable and hasn’t been changed. “There is no alternative to the Europeans way of developing the country”, stated President.

But during his wide interview given to journalist Ukrainian President announced that he is not planning to sign the Association and Free Trade Agreement with EU during the Summit of Eastern European Partnership planned to be held in Vilnius on 28-29 November.

Tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens all over Ukraine and now also worldwide are protesting against the government’s decision to suspend the process of European integration of Ukraine and the preparation to the signing of the Association Agreement and demonstrating in support of EU integration.

Ukrainian government has issued an official statement on Thursday, 21 November, stating that all the processes of the preparation to the signing of the Association Agreement with the countries members of EU are officially suspended in order to protect the national interests and security of Ukraine and to work for the further development of the country to be more prepared for the cooperation with EU as the government claims the country will suffer great economic losses if it will sign an agreement and loose the Russian market.

Nearly three thousand activists are currently gathering in Kyiv downtown, on the iconic Independence Square, where on 21 November 2004, nine years ago, has started Ukrainian Orange Revolution.

Spontaneous internet campaign on Facebook started on the evening of Thursday, has called on the activists and Ukrainian citizens to show their active position and to go for the protests against the decision of Ukrainian government.

On Thursday, 21 November, Ukrainian Parliament’s speaker has closed the session without taking any decision regarding the draft law to enable medical treatment of the prisoners abroad, the law which could help to solve the issue of Ukrainian imprisoned ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. Two new projects of the law were added today to the existing four projects, all of them have been proposed either by the oppositional parties or by the independent MPs in Parliament.

The mission of European Commission represented by observers of European Parliament arrived in Ukraine on 29 October in the framework of the previously planned official visit in order to study the situation in Ukraine and the country’s readiness for the upcoming Summit of Eastern European Partnership to be held in Vilnius on 28-29 November and possible signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and EU.

The observers’ mission of EU is represented by Aleksander Kwaśniewski and Pat Cox will spend in Ukraine several days and will stay here till 31 October visiting Kyiv and Kharkiv where ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is currently imprisoned.

Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich has signed today, on Monday 3 December, the decree on the resignation of Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

In addition to that all the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will also resign together with the Prime Minister. According to the Article 115 of Ukrainian Constitution the resignation of the Prime Minister causes the resignation of the whole government, thus, the President has signed the decree on the resignation of all the members of the Cabinet.

But according to the Constitution the current government will work until the new one will be formed and appointed.

The official statement reports that all the ministers will work on their positions and will perform their duties until the formation of the new Cabinet. After the new Cabinet will be appointed, all the members of the previous one will leave their positions.
