Minor clashes occurred in Cairo and in several other Egyptian cities on Friday 14 August, as Muslim Brotherhood and Mohamed Morsi supporters gathered for the second anniversary of violent dispersal of sit-ins in Cairo’s Rabaa Al-Adaweya and Al-Nahda squares.

Two years ago Egyptian security and Armed Forces have dispersed massive pro-Morsi and pro-Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in Cairo’s Nasr City, on the Rabaa Al-Adaweya Square, and on Al-Nahda Square in Giza, as the massive crackdown of Islamists followed these events throughout the country.

An Egyptian Criminal Court has sentenced Egypt’s former Islamist backed President Mohamed Morsi to 20 years in jail during the Court’s session on Wednesday, 21 April. Mohamed Morsi and 14 other co-defendants were accused of ordering arrest and imprisonment and the following of tortures of protesters and journalists during his rule.

Mohamed Morsi was overthrown by the decree of Egypt’s Armed Forces in 2013 after massive nationwide protests against his rule. Mohamed Morsi was arrested and put in the prison in the coastal city of Alexandria and he faced trial on several charges including ties and cooperation with foreign militants to plan and carry out prison break and organizing of escape of jailed jihadists and Islamists from the prison during the protests of January 22 revolution in 2011.

Friday Islamist rallies planned by the ultra-conservative Salafi group all over Egypt failed to drive huge crowds of protesters, though they turned violent as protesters clashed with police in Cairo and in some other Egyptian cities as well.

Security measures were tightened in Cairo and in Egypt nationwide ahead of the planned protests aimed to gather thousands of demonstrators in order to protest for “preserving and saving Islamic identity” of Egypt and to protest against ouster of the former President Mohamed Morsy.

Egypt has celebrated on Monday, 6^th October, its 41^st anniversary of the October War, happened in 1973 between Egyptians and Israelis. The celebrations were expected to be massive, with the impressive air-show and big gatherings of people in the central squares of Egyptian cities. Egypt army and police forces have tightened security in Cairo, Alexandria and other cities as well in attempt to prevent possible clashes, rallies or provocations.

This year anniversary of the October War came on the same day with the third day of Eid Al-Adha celebrations, marking the end of Hajj and return to home of thousands of Egyptian pilgrims, who visited Saudi Arabia this year.

Friday rallies of Islamists and of supporters of Egyptian ousted President Mohamed Morsi, organized by the Alliance to Support Legitimacy, turned violent as the protesters clashed with the police in several districts of Cairo and in the coastal city of Alexandria as well.

The protests were attended by several hundred supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, currently banned by Egyptian government and designated as a terrorist organization, and supporters of Mohamed Morsi, who was ousted one year ago by Egyptian Army after the wave of the massive nationwide protests.

Egyptian National Alliance in Support of Legitimacy, an umbrella group for many Islamist groups and currents including recently banned and designated as a terrorist group Muslim Brotherhood, has issued a manifest on the eve of the anniversary of ouster of Egypt’s Islamist President Mohamed Morsi threatening the currently authorities with organizing the massive protests and demonstrations all over the country.  

Egypt’s Islamist backed President Mohamed Morsy, who was elected as the country’s President in 2012, was ousted by the decree of Egypt’s Armed Forces amid the massive nationwide protests against his rule, started on 30 June 2013. Mohamed Morsi was ousted on 3 July 2014, as Egypt’s Head of the Armed Forces Abdel Fattah El-Sissi has appointed Adly Mansour as Egypt’s interim President and has introduces a political roadmap for Egypt.

Egypt hit by four explosions this Friday as pro-Morsy demonstrations are ongoing

Egypt was hit by the four explosions on Friday, 2 May, which left at least four people killed and several wounded.

The first explosion hit a road police check point in Cairo’s Masr El-Gedida (Heliopolis) district, killing one low ranking officer and injured four soldiers and conscripts. Media sources reported that a primitive bomb targeted a traffic check point close to the building of court. Police and experts are working on the scene, and investigation was started. The injured people were transferred for treatment to the Heliopolis hospital.

Security situation remains a concerning issue in Egypt since the ouster of the Islamist backed President Mohamed Morsy in July 2013. Egypt has witnessed a wave of systematic and massive pro-Muslim Brotherhood and pro-Morsy protests, mass arrests of the Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters, trials, numerous attacks against police and Armed Forces and several bombings in Egyptian cities as well.

Latest Friday, 18 April, was marked by the rallies of Mohamed Morsy and Muslim Brotherhood supporters, held in several cities of Egypt nationwide. Hundreds of pro-Morsy demonstrators have been protesting in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Tanta, Kafr El-Sheikh, Fayoum, Menoufiya and others, according to the local media.

Egyptians have gathered at the polling stations nationwide for the second day of the National Referendum in order to cast their votes. Referendum has been already held for Egyptians living abroad, though the voters’ turnout was low, according to the information of Egypt’s High Electoral Committee. In Egypt though the voters’ turnout during the first day of Referendum, 14 January, was very high. The second day, 15 January, witnessed lower voters’ turnout, but there were a lot of women and elderly citizens willing to participate in the voting process.

Hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood’s and Egypt’s ousted President Mohamed Morsi have participated in the nationwide protests called by Alliance for Support of Legitimacy.

Pro-Morsi and pro-Muslim Brotherhood demonstrators have started their traditional rallies on Friday after noon prayers continuing their protests against Mohamed Morsi’s ouster and demanding his reinstatement as the state’s President, protesting against the military backed interim government and the political roadmap introduced by the Armed Forces. Islamist demonstrators have added to their traditional demands also protests against the upcoming National Referendum over the recently amended Constitution. They reject the interim government and all the decisions taken after Morsi’s ouster and reject also the amended Constitution as well calling for boycotting the polls.

Egyptian Islamists and Alliance for Support of Legitimacy calling for Mohamed Morsy’s reinstatement as Egypt’s President have called for the massive rallies to be held on Friday, 3 January, in order to protest the recent decisions of the military backed interim government and calling for boycotting of the upcoming national referendum on the amended Constitution.

Friday, 27 December, was marked in Egypt by the nationwide protests of Muslim Brotherhood’s supporters protesting recent decision of Egypt’s interim government to designate Muslim Brotherhood as a “terrorist organization”.

Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers has officially declared Muslim Brotherhood “terrorist organization” on Wednesday, 25 December, banned its activities and ordered to freeze financial assets and bonds of the group. The decision came one day after deadly blast hit Nile Delta city of Mansoura, which took 16 lives and left more than 136 people injured. Muslim Brotherhood received accusations of organizing this terrorist attack, but Sinai based terrorist group Ansar Beyt Al-Maqdis, inspired by Al-Qaeda, declared its responsibility for the explosion.

Egypt’s Islamist Alliance for Support of Legitimacy calling for reinstatement of Mohamed Morsy as the President, called for the protests over the week-end. Protests have been planned to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, commemorating slain protesters on Friday, expressing support of 21 female Muslim Brotherhood detainees in Alexandria on Saturday and to support striking workers of Helwan factory on Sunday.

Protests have started on Friday after noon prayers as demonstrators got to the streets and the squares of several districts of Cairo and of other Egyptian cities as well including Suez, Fayoum, Upper Egypt cities and others.

Egypt’s Islamist Alliance for Support of Legitimacy, which united Muslim Brotherhood and several other Islamist parties and groups, calls for the new protests to be held in Cairo and in other Egyptian cities as well on Friday, 6 December.

The new protests are planned to be held during all week-end, starting on Friday and being held on Saturday and Sunday. According to the official statement of the Alliance the protests will be held in commemoration of the slain protesters and in solidarity with the girls detained in Alexandria and with the striking workers as well.

Several hundreds of supporters of Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt’s ousted President Mohamed Morsy have gathered on Friday on Cairo, Giza and other Egyptian cities as well to protest against the current government and in support of Mohamed Morsy.

The rallies have been organized also as a response to the recent trial verdict recently issued for 21 female pro-Morsy protesters in the coastal city of Alexandria accused of damaging public and private property, attacking security forces and spreading violence. The court has sentenced the girls to 11 years in prison. This verdict was considered being extremely harsh and was strongly criticized by political and human rights activists as well.

Egypt’s Islamist backed Alliance for Support of Legitimacy and also Muslim Brotherhood have been calling for the protests on Friday and on Sunday to commemorate the victims of the violent dispersal of two pro-Morsy sit-ins in Cairo’s Rabaa Al-Adawayea Square and Giza’s Nahda Square. These protests are expected to be held as 100 days anniversary since the dispersal.

The protests have started on Friday, 22 November, after Friday noon prayers. Several thousand protesters supporting Muslim Brotherhood and Mohamed Morsy have marched today in different districts of Cairo. The demonstrations have been held also in other Egyptian cities as well including Alexandria, Upper Egypt’s Assiut, Suez, several Delta cities and others.

Several hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt’s deposed President Mohamed Morsy have gathered for the Friday demonstrations in Cairo and in other Egyptian governorates as well including Alexandria, Suez, Upper Egypt and other cities, as the state of emergency ended by the court decree on 13 November and the curfew officially lifted on 14 November.

Since January 25 Revolution Friday became a traditional day for staging the demonstrations in Egypt, so the curfew imposed on the Egyptian cities after violent dispersal of pro-Morsy sit-ins in Cairo and Giza and the following clashes in the middle of August started at 7 p.m. on Fridays in attempt to restrict the supporters of the ousted President from staging the protests.

Egypt’s Interior Ministry has published an official statement on Saturday, 2^nd November, calling for Egyptian citizens to avoid clashes and warning against any violence on the 4^th November when the trial of Egypt’s deposed President Mohamed Morsy is scheduled.

It’s worth mentioning that The Alliance for Support of Legitimacy, Islamist umbrella organization demanding reinstatement of Mohamed Morsy as Egypt’s President and refusing to accept the current transitional government and the political roadmap proposed by the Armed Forces, has called for the massive protests to be held ahead and during the day of trial of Mohamed Morsy.

Egypt’s Islamist umbrella organization Alliance to Support Legitimacy united several Islamist groups and parties including Muslim Brotherhood have called for the series of massive protests during several weeks I order to support Egypt’s ousted former Islamist President and protest against what they call “military coup”. The protests have been planned to start of Friday, traditional day for holding mass demonstrations and protests in Egypt since January 25 Revolution.

Egyptian ousted President Mohamed Morsy officially refused to recognize the court and the judges due to try him on 4^th November in the cases of incitement violence and murder during the December 2012 clashes in front of the Presidential Palace and several other cases.

Mohamed Morsy was ousted by Egypt’s Armed Forces on 3 July amid the massive protests nationwide against his rule and the domination of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egyptian politics and was arrested and held in detention at an undisclosed location due to the security reasons.
