Cairo Criminal Court has declared its verdict in the corruption case of Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, on Saturday, 9 May. Hosni Mubarak was declared guilty in the graft case and received three years prison term, while his two sons received four years in prison respectively.

The case centers on the embezzlement of $ 14 million of state money aimed for renovation of the presidential palaces. It was stated that this amount of money was used by former Egypt’s President and his sons for renovation of their private residences in Cairo and on the Red Sea Coast, in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, as well as the family owned farm.

Two prominent high ranking officials from the ear of long-standing Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Ahmed Nazif and Habib El-Adly, were acquitted by the Cairo Court of corruption charges.

Ahmed Nazif, who was appointed as a Prime Minister by Hosni Mubarak and served on this position for the period of time since 2004 till 2004, and Habib El-Adly, who a close aide of Hosni Mubarak and served as a Minister of Interior in 1997-2011 and was in his position during the January 25 Revolution as well, were accused of corruption in April 2011. The Court has accused them of awarding L.E. 92 million contract for manufacturing the license plates to a German car company without proper tender, as it is regulated by the law.

Egyptian Criminal Court judge has dropped all charges against Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak, his sons Alaa and Gamal, former Interior Minister Habib El-Adly and six his aides. The court session was held on Saturday, 29 November, in Cairo Police Academy.

Thus, the Court dropped the murder cases against Hosni Mubarak in relation to the killing of more than 800 protesters and injuring more than 1500 demonstrators across the country during 18 days of uprising in January-February 2011. The judge stated he dropped the criminal case against Hosni Mubarak because the earlier decision of the Prosecution, taken in March 2011, lacked basis to bring criminal case against the ousted President Hosni Mubarak. In addition to that the statute of limitations against Hosni Mubarak, his sons, his former Interior Minister and six aides has experied, according to the Judge.

Cairo Criminal Court has declared during its Saturday’s session that the trial of Egypt’s ousted President Hosni Mubarak, his two sons Gamal and Alaa, former Interior Minister Habib El-Adly and six aides to be adjourned till 19 October 2013.

The Court has also announced the dates of the planned court sessions to listen to the testimonies of the defendants and the witnesses, among them Atef Ebeid, who was Prime Minister under Hosni Mubarak, Major General Hassan El-Roweiny, former member of SCAF, Agmed Gamal El-Deen, former Interior Minister, Sherif Ismail, who is currently Petroleum Minister. The sessions are expected to be held on 19, 20, 21 October and won’t be aired on TV due to the national security reasons.

Hosni Mubarak is standing retrial in the case of killing the peaceful demonstrators during January 25 Revolution in 2011. Egypt’s former President faces these accusations together with his ex-Minister of Interior Habib El-Adly and six aides, high ranking security forces officials. The historical trial of the former President and his co-defendants was held in summer 2013 and in June they’ve been announced guilty and received life in prison sentence. Though later after the appeal of Hosni Mubarak’s lawyer Fareed El-Deeb Hosni Mubarak and also Habib El-Adly and six aides have been granted retrial due to the new evidences in the case and irregularities during the first trial.

In addition to that Hosni Mubarak along with two his sons, Gamal and Alaa, is also facing the trial in several corruption cases as well.

A Northern Criminal Court of Cairo has announced it will review the release appeal of Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak this Wednesday, 21 August. The appeal is against the fresh detention ordered for Mr. Mubarak in his corruption case.

It’s worth mentioning that Hosni Mubarak along with two of his sons, Alaa and Gamal, have been declared not guilty in several corruption charges against them, so the number of the court cases against Egypt’s ex-President decreases. The Court has already announced the possibility of the ending of his detention regarding some other charges, and the appeal against the fresh detention nis to be reviewed on Wednesday.

Egypt’s North Cairo Court has taken the decision today, on 17 August, to adjourn the trial session of Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak ousted in 2011, his sons, ex-Minister of Interior Habib El-Adly and six his aides. The trial is adjourned till 25 August 2013 as the accused failed to show up during today’s Court’s session.

Hosni Mubarak and other defendants in this case didn’t appear in the courtroom due to security situation and ongoing clashes in Cairo and nationwide, according to the official statement. This was the main reason of adjourning the date of trial.

Cairo’s North Criminal Court has announced on Saturday, 6 July, that the trial of Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak along with his Interior Minister Habib El-Adly and six his aides to be adjourned till 17 August this year.

Hosni Mubarak, Habib El-Adly and six high ranking officials have been accused of failing to protect the peaceful demonstrators during January 25 Revolution in 2011 which resulted in killings of more than 800 people and injuring of thousands. In June 2013 Hosni Mubarak faced the historical trial and received the life in prison sentence, but in January 2013 he was granted the retrial due to the irregularities during the first trial and new materials in the case.

Egypt’s North Cairo Misdemeanor Court announced today, on 18 June 2013, its decision regarding the release of Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak in the illicit gains case. Though, according to Mr. Mubarak’s lawyer Fareed El-Deeb, the Court decided it will not renew the detention term for Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted as a result of the 18 days uprising in 2011.

But it’s worth mentioning that this decision was appealed immediately by the prosecution, so ex-President is to remain in custody facing the trial in other corruption cases.

The Criminal Court of Cairo during its session on Saturday declared that the trial of Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak along with his sons Alaa and Gamal, his former Interior Minister Habib El-Adly and six of his aides to be adjourned till Monday.

In addition to that the Court has also rejected all the civil complaints filled by the plaintiff’s lawyers explaining their decision with the remark that those complaints should be referred to the courts of the proper jurisdiction and not to the Cairo Criminal Court. This decision was met with critic of the defendant’s lawyers who have been chanting for purging Egyptian judiciary.

During the session on Saturday, 11 May 2013, presiding judge Mahmoud Kamel El-Rashidi has announced that the proceedings in the retrial of Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak will be postponed till the next month. The retrial is expected to be started at 8^th of June.

The retrial of Mubarak’s Interior Minister Habib El-Adly and six his aides and also the retrial of Mubarak’s sons Gamal and Alaa were also postponed.

This decision was taken due to the new evidences and materials appeared in the case. There is reported to be some 55,000 pages of documentation for the judges to review, that’s why the retrial session was postponed.

Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak currently facing the trial was released by the court decision in the case of killing the peaceful protesters during the January 25 Revolution.

Hosni Mubarak was detained since April 2011 and faced the trial and was accused of failing to prevent the killings of the hundreds of the protesters during the Revolution. His Minister of Interior Habib El-Adly and six his aides have been facing the same charges. He was convicted in June 2011 and received the life in prison verdict, along with Habib El-Adly and six other high ranking officers.

Egypt’s Court of Appeal headed by Judge Samir Abul-Moaty announced on Sunday, 3 March, that the retrial of Egypt’s ex-President Hosni Mubarak will start on 13 April 2013. Mubarak’s ex-Minister of Interior Habib El-Adly and six aides of President will also face the retrial.

Hosni Mubarak and Habib El-Adly along with other high ranking officials have face the trial in 2012 and have been accused of failing to stop the deaths and injuries of the peaceful protesters during the January 25 Revolution in 2011. Hosni Mubarak and Habib El-Adly have been sentenced to life in prison in June 2012, while six Mubarak officials have been acquitted due to the lack of evidences against them. This court decision sparked anger and provoked protests in Egypt.

Egypt’s Cassation Court has ordered the retrial of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his aide, former Interior Minister Habib El-Adly.

Egypt’s ex-President and his Interior Minister have been accused of failing to prevent the killings and injuring of the peaceful protesters during January 25 Revolution in 2011 and have been sentenced to life in prison, while six other defendants, high ranking officers, were acquitted. This move sparked nationwide anger in Egypt.

After the Court has accepted the appeal filed by two former regime figures, the Cassation Court issued a verdict for retrial of Hosni Mubarak and Habib El-Adly.

Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsy issued Constitutional Declaration expanding his powers

Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsy has issued the new Constitutional Declaration on Thursday, 22 November 2012, which came as a surprising decision for many.

The new Constitutional Declaration expands the powers of the state’s President, as the head of state has the right to appoint the new Prosecutor General for the four-year term. Thus, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy has sacked today the state’s Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid-Mahmoud and appointed Judge Talaat Ibrahim Mohamed Abdallah as the new Prosecutor General for the next four years. Talaat Ibrahim Mohamed Abdallah is the former deputy head of Egypt’s Court of Cassation.

In addition to that one of the articles of the new Constitutional Declaration states that all the previous constitutional declarations, laws, orders and decrees made by the President since he was sworn in are final and binding and cannot be appealed by any authority until the new Constitution will be finalized and approved and the new Parliament will be elected. All the appeals and lawsuits against those decisions should be annulled, so the President’s decisions consider being the final. This is one of the most controversial articles of the Constitutional Declaration which cause a lot of worries, concerns and protests among the activists and representatives of different political powers who accuse Mohamed Morsy of conducting a coup and trying to usurp the power in the country.

Hosni Mubarak’s trial is really historic and very important event not only for Egypt, but for the whole Arab world, and this trial was one of the demands of January 25 Revolution and became a great test for Egypt’s SCAF (Supreme Council of the Armed Forces) – de facto the ruler of transitional period – and for Egyptian judiciary as well. Can the new ruling power bring the long awaited justice for the people demanding it? This historic trial was called by many “The Trial of a Century”. Hosni Mubarak is actually the first ousted leader of Arab country who was brought to justice by his own people and was tried in his country and in front of his people with the court sessions being aired live on TV (Tunisian ex-President Ben Ali was tried in absentia).
