Islamist protesters in Egypt |
Several marches of Mohamed Morsy and Muslim Brotherhood’s loyalists have
been held on Friday, 25 October, in Cairo and other Egyptian governorates as
well after Alliance to Support Legitimacy, an umbrella Islamist group, has
announced the week of the protests inspired by the resistance to Israeli forces
in Suez during 1973 war.
The Alliance has published its official statement of their website
calling for the massive marches and protests and accusing Egypt’s military and
current interim government of being loyal to “Israeli and Zionist” ideas and
interests and accusing them also of ousting Mohamed Morsy due to his stance on
the Palestinian issue.
Several protests which haven’t been numerous have started after Friday
prayers from several mosques in Cairo’s Maadi, Nasr City, Helwan and some other
districts as well. The protests have been held also in front of Cairo’s
Presidential Palace located in Heliopolis.
Demonstrators have been chanting against the Armed Forces and Abdel
Fattah El-Sissi,
Egypt’s chief of military forces and also against the current
transitional government and demanded reinstatement of Mohamed Morsy as Egypt’s
President – the key demand and main slogan of the Alliance to Support Legitimacy
and the pro-Morsy protesters since the ouster of the Islamist backed President.
Some protesters have been holding the yellow sign of the Rabaa Al-Adaweya
Square in commemoration of the victims of the violent dispersal of pro-Morsy
sit-ins in mid-August.
Egypt’s security forces and military have taken the needed security
measures during the planned Muslim Brotherhood protests blocking the main
squares being the popular sites for the protests such as Tahrir Square, Rabaa
Al-Adaweya, Al-Nahda and some other squares as well in order to prevent
pro-Morsy supporters to gather there and to organize the sit-in.
Limited clashes have erupted during the Friday Islamist protests in some
Egyptian cities including Suez, Alexandria, Gharbiya and some other. Police
forces have interfered firing tear gas in attempt to disperse the crowds of
protesters as the rocks and stones have been thrown by some demonstrators.
Ministry of Health reports about several injured. No casualties reported.
