Two citizens
were killed and eleven were wounded in a bombing that occurred in Northern
Sinai city of El-Arish on Monday, 18 April.
An improvised
explosive device (IED) detonated when a police van transporting the prisoners
was passing by. There are three police conscripts among the wounded.
According the
Armed Forces and security forces statements unknown assailants have planted the
IED in the El-Khazan area aiming to attack the police van.
The bodies of
the killed people and also the wounded citizens were transferred to El-Arish
General Hospital, while the wounded conscripts were taken to El-Arish Military
Hospital, according to the authorities.
Security forces
have cordoned off the area and search for the culprits of an attack is
ongoing.
No group has
claimed responsibility for the Monday attack yet.
Egypt's North Sinai is witnessing a wave of
violence and terrorist attacks targeting mostly security forces and soldiers
since the ouster of the Islamist backed President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
The attacks and bombings occur in the region almost daily, as the state Armed
Forces launch military and anti-terrorist operations in the restive Sinai
Peninsula in order to eliminate terrorism and restore peace and security in the
region.
