As the situation in Eastern Ukraine, where pro-Russian militants and
Russian terrorists continue to control several cities in Donetsk and Luhansk
regions, remains tense, and the battles are ongoing despite the ceasefire and
readiness for the talks from Ukrainian side.
We would remind here that an anti-terrorist operation being launched in
eastern Ukraine by Ukrainian Armed and security forces and National Guard, was
paused, as Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko declared a ceasefire and stated
that his “peaceful plan” will be used to resolve the situation.
Two rounds of the talks with the representatives of the so called
Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic, Ukrainian side and Russians, observed by
OSCE, have been held, as the third round was planned to be held after 30 June,
where the term of the ceasefire is over. European leaders, including German
Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, have called
for continuation of a ceasefire and talks between the sides, as Russian
President Putin claims that Russian troops are almost withdrawn and demands
ceasefire as well. Though the regime of ceasefire was systematically violated
by the terrorists, as Ukrainian army suffered heavy losses.
Meanwhile Ukrainian soldiers, activists of Maidan and protesters have
gathered on Sunday, 29 June, in Independence Square and in front of the
Presidential Palace demanding cancelling of the ceasefire and talks with the
terrorists and resuming of an anti-terrorist operation.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had met with the Parliament’s MPs
on Monday, 30 June, and then held an urgent meeting with the members of
National Security and Defense Council in order to take a decision regarding the
continuation of an anti-terrorist operation in Eastern Ukraine and the further
steps.
Petro Poroshenko declared during this meeting that the terrorists didn’t
use the possibilities of the “peaceful plan”, and the ceasefire will be
canceled, while an anti-terrorist operation will move into its next active
phase and will be held according to the so called “Plan B”, and the “peaceful
plan” didn’t bring results.
Mr. Poroshenko stated that the operation will turn into an active phase
with usage of new tactics and methods, when the strikes will be precise and
will targeted, so the terrorists will have serious losses. Ukraine will defend
its territories, borders and citizens and it will attack the terrorists in
order to eliminate their activities and to restore security and stability in
the region, according to the President.
In addition to that several high officials and generals of an
anti-terrorist operation have been replaced and the new candidates were
appointed. The ceasefire will be cancelled and it will be a response to all
these terrorists and criminals violating it.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is expected to address the nation
in the night and to declare officially the further steps.
