Cairo's Tahrir Square |
Several hundreds of Mohamed Morsy’s and Muslim Brotherhood’s supporters
have gathered on Tuesday, 1 October, in Cairo’s downtown and reached iconic
Tahrir Square.
Muslim Brotherhood has reported recently on its official website about
the plans to hold the demonstration “Youth against the coup” in Cairo’s Talaat
Harb Square which is in a few minutes walking form Tahrir Square. The protesters
have been chanting against military and current regime and demanding
reinstatement of Mohamed Morsy who was deposed by military decree on 3 July
amid the massive demonstrations against him and his rule nationwide.
Though the protest didn’t last long, and some minor clashes erupted
between the pro-Morsy supporters participating in the demonstration and some
local residents, bystanders, street vendors and owners of the local shops who
managed to threw the protesters off the Tahrir Square, so the area was clear
before the police and security forces arrived.
It is worth mentioning that since the ouster of Egypt’s Islamist backed
President Mohamed Morsy Egyptian security forces are patrolling the areas of
the possible protests and block the entrances to Tahrir Square and also other
sites of protests in order to prevent the massive rallies and sit-ins.
Muslim Brotherhood’s and pro-Morsy protests have been held almost every
week since the ouster of Mohamed Morsy though nowadays they are significantly weaker
with less participants attending them.
