Egypt’s Armed Forces ousted Mohamed Morsy and announced a roadmap for transitional period

After 48-hour ultimatum made by military and addressed to Egyptian President, his powers and oppositional forces as well Egypt’s Armed Forced declared a statement on Wednesday, 3 July, announcing the Mohamed Morsy’s dismissal as a President and presenting the new roadmap for the nearest political future of the country.

According to the military roadmap the new caretaker government should be formed for the transitional period in the country. Egypt’s Head of the Armed Forces Abdel Fattah El-Sissi declared Head of Egypt’s Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, as an interim President of Egypt until the new president will be elected during the early presidential elections. According to the reports Head of Constitutional Court will be sworn as an interim head of state on Thursday, 4 July.

Armed Forces have also announced that the current Egypt’s Constitution, written by the Islamist dominated Constitutional Assembly and strongly criticized by the oppositional and secularist political powers, to be suspended.

Egyptian Army also deployed around Cairo, Alexandria and other Egyptian cities to protect the people and control the situation.

Meanwhile Egypt’s recently ousted President Mohamed Morsy just made a statement declaring that he refuses the conditions and roadmap of the Armed Forces and he remains Egypt’s legitimate President, elected by people. Mohamed Morsy calls for the people not to respond to the military statement considering it being the coup against the legitimacy and urges the people to avoid the bloodshed.

The announcement of the Armed Forces has been met with celebratory moods in Cairo’s Tahrir Square and in other Egyptian cities as well. People chanting and celebrating, there fireworks and singing around. More and more people reportedly arrive to Tahrir and other hotspots of the 4-days 30-June Revolution to celebrate the ouster of Mohamed Morsy.

Meanwhile there are also reports about closing of several Islamist TV channels, including the famous 25 Misr, and about arresting the crew by police, which is a worrying sign.

In addition to that hundreds of thousands of Morsy supporters remain in Nasr City.
