Summit Ukraine-European Union dedicated to the possibility of signing of
the Association Agreement will start on Monday, 25 February 2013, in Brussels.
Ukraine’s President Victor Yanukovich will be the leader of Ukrainian
delegation, while EU will be represented by Herman Van Rompuy and José Manuel
Barroso.
This Summit would be very important for the further steps of Ukraine
towards the integration with EU and developing the relations between EU and
Kiev. The date of the Summit has been delayed a few times due to the tense
political situation in Ukraine regarding the attitude towards opposition and
the situation with the judicial system in the country.
Meanwhile EU’s representatives on the Summit, Herman Van Rompuy and José
Manuel Barroso, declared they hope that Ukraine will impose the changes and
reforms in the field of judiciary to avoid the selective justice of which
Ukraine has been accused. Another key issue which needs reforms is the
elections’ law which should be also amended.
Both of EU representatives gave an official interview to a prominent
Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainskaya Pravda on the eve of the Summit.
The most important step for Ukraine now is to show its strict and more
confident political position and to prove that Ukraine is really ready to
impose reforms and develop the country in attempt to build closer relationships
with European Union.
