Spanish magazine published Prophet Mohamed caricature on its cover page

Spanish humorous magazine El Jueves published Prophet Mohamed caricature on its cover page in solidarity with the French satirical magazine which recently published controversial Mohamed cartoons.

The caricature in the Spanish magazine shows the process of identification in police with the line of bearded men standing and holding little banners with the title “Does anybody know how Mohamed looks like?”. It might refer to the strict prohibition in Islam to show Prophet Mohamed which considers being offensive to the Muslims people.

One of the members of the editorial board of the magazine, Jose Luiz Martin, said that the personnel of the magazine isn’t scare over the possible negative reactions caused by publishing such caricatures, as it happened after the scandalous anti-Islam movie and French cartoons. He stated the journalists have freedom of expression and they will not allow any censorship even facing the threats.

Martin also added that the film and the caricatures are only an excuse for the people ready for violence and hatred. He also said the freedom of expression should not be violated by the statements or actions of religious fanatics.

We would remind here that the controversial film “The Innocence of Muslims” produced in USA and offending Islamic Prophet Mohamed and Islam sparked the wave of massive protests in the Muslim world started from 11 September with the demonstrations in Egypt and the neighboring Libya. The following publishing of the Prophet cartoons in the French satirical magazine provoked the protests at the French embassies, so the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs even ordered to close all the French consulates, diplomatic missions, cultural centers and schools connected to the Embassy until the protests will be over.

I will add from myself that I would not like to publish here those caricatures from the Spanish magazine due to sensitivity of this issue and my strong conviction that freedom of expression should exist only till it does not offend the feelings of other people.
