Egypt's
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is expected to address the newly elected
Parliament, the House of Representatives, consisting of 596 MPs, later this
week, according to the presidential sources and sources in Parliament.
The President is
expected to deliver his keynote speech before the members of the Parliament
that recently swore in and in front of the numerous highly respected guests,
among them foreign officials and diplomats, representatives of the Arab states'
parliaments and religious leaders. According to the newly amended Constitution
of 2014 the President of state can address the House of Representatives after
it held its inaugural session.
This official
speech will be the first address of Egyptian President to the Parliament
members to take place on Sunday or on Monday.
Mr. El-Sisi is
expected to address numerous important domestic, foreign and regional issues
including the current economic situation in the country.
Egyptian
Parliament is scheduled to hold its plenary session this Saturday, 13 February,
and the MPs will discuss s number of controversial issues and regulations such
as draft of the House's new by-laws and code of conduct. The MPs will also
review the resignation request submitted by the high profile judge Sirri Siam.
The Parliament
Building which is located in Downtown Cairo is under the tight security
measures since Tuesday, 9 February, stated the Parliament's Secretary-General
Ahmed Saaddin. Presidential Republican Guard has already took control of the
building and is responsible for security during the day of presidential speech.
The session of
the Parliament when the President will deliver his speech will be attended by
many important guests, among them Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and the
members of the Cabinet of Ministers, the foreign guests and diplomats, the
representatives of other Parliaments of the Arab states, Grand Sheikh of
Al-Azhar and Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will address the House of
Representatives for the first time since he took office and since the
Parliament was elected and swore in.
