Eleven police
conscripts were injured in a bomb explosion that occurred on Wednesday, 21
October, near the city of El-Arish in Northern Sinai, according to the MENA
news agency.
The bomb
detonated when the military vehicle with the army and police conscripts was patrolling
the area. An explosion has targeted a tank in the Al-Zohour neighborhood,
stated representatives of Egypt's Security Forces.
As a result of
the bombing 11 conscripts were injured and transported to the neighboring
hospitals. The conscripts sustained minor injuries.
Egypt's Armed
and Security forces have surrounded the area in search of other explosives and
bombs and in search of the possible perpetrators of an attack.
No group claimed
responsibility for the Wednesday's bombing till now.
Egypt's restive
Sinai Peninsula has been experiencing a wave of violence since the ouster of
the Islamist backed President Mohamed Morsi in summer 2013. The attacks target
mostly military and police facilities and personnel, though civilians also
suffer from the insurgency. ISIS affiliated group Ansar Beyt Al-Maqdis, based
in Northern Sinai, also intensified its activity in the recent time, claiming
responsibility for numerous massive attacks and bombings not only in Sinai but
also in other areas of Egypt including the capital Cairo.
Egypt's Armed
Forces have been launching several military operations in order to eliminate
the militants' activity in the region and to bring security and safety back to
the country. Fight with terrorism is among the primary goals of policies of
Egypt's Presidend Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
