Egypt: two blasts hit Cairo on Monday evening, following the deadly Supreme Court blast

Two bombs have exploded in Cairo on Monday evening, 2 March, following the deadly blast occurred earlier that day in the Cairo Supreme Court neighborhood in Ramsees Street, Downtown Cairo. The morning blast has left two people dead, both of them were civilians, and nine people injured, including seven police personnel, as the bombing has targeted police checkpoint located next to the Supreme Court building.

Later that day, two bombs exploded in two different districts of Cairo. One of them went off at about 9:30 p.m. in front of the police station in Cairo upscale district Heliopolis. It was a sound bomb, according to the statement of Egypt’s Ministry of Interior, and it didn’t cause casualties.

The second bomb exploded at the same evening in Al-Maadi district, also leaving no casualties, but damaging two cars, both of them belonging to the police officers of Zahraa Al-Maadi police station.

At the same evening the third bomb was found by the security forces on the Street 90, leading to one of the districts east of Cairo. This bomb was safely defused.

Tuesday's morning was also marked by the bombs' explosions, as five small improvised bombs went off in the Northern district of Matareya in Cairo, damaging several cars and facades of the buildings, but leaving no casualties.

Since the ouster of the Islamist backed President Mohamed Morsi, who was ousted in July 2012 by the Armed Forces decree, Egypt has faced numerous terrorist attacks and bombings, targeting primarily and mostly security forces, police and military. Northern Sinai has experienced attacks and bombs almost on a daily basis, while Egyptian Armed Forces have carried out several anti-terrorist operations in the region, destroying the bases and strongholds of the Sinai based terrorists.

Many cities of Egypt have also faced a threat of the terrorist attacks and bombings, sometimes leaving serious casualties. Small and self-made bombs and simple explosive devices, doing almost no harm, have been exploding in different districts of Cairo and in other cities as well almost daily.

Meanwhile Egyptian authorities have stated that they are on alert over the further attacks and intensifying of them ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held in March and April this year and also due to participation of Egypt in the anti-ISIS coalition as well.
