Russian regular troops and columns of military technique crossed
Ukrainian border and entered Ukraine openly on August 27, capturing Southern
Ukrainian city of Novoazovsk and several other cities in Amvrosiivka and
Starobeshevo region. The cities remain under control of Russian soldiers and
Russian backed terrorists of the so called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s
Republics.
The fact of Russian open military aggression against Ukraine and
military invasion was confirmed not only by Ukrainian military, but also by
NATO and US State Department, publishing the satellite images clearly showing
Russian military troops and technique crossing Ukrainian borders and moving
through the territory of Ukraine.
Such an outrageous and unbelievable act of Russian aggression provoked a
strong reaction all over the world, as UN Security Council and OSCE have held
urgent meetings regarding this issue, while US President Barak Obama has
declared in his speech addressed for the US citizens that Russia is responsible
for the violence in Ukraine and deterioration of the situation in Donbas
region.
After the phone conversation with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel US
President Barak Obama stated: “Russia is responsible for the violence in
Eastern Ukraine. The violence is encouraged by Russia. The separatists are
trained by Russia. They are armed by Russia. They are funded by Russia”. Thus,
US President accused Russia of orchestrating violence in Eastern Ukraine and
its unwillingness to deescalate the situation.

“Russia has deliberately and
repeatedly violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,”
added Mr. Obama. As Russia demonstrates its unwillingness to resolve the
problem peacefully and makes everything for the escalation of the conflict, US
and the international community will work on the new and tough measures to make
Russia pay a high cost for its actions, according to the US President.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in his turn has addressed the
nation on 28 August declaring that Russia invaded Ukraine openly and that the
country will do everything possible in order to protect its citizens, territory
and sovereignty and that Ukraine will seek support of NATO and international
community. Mr. Poroshenko has cancelled his trip to Turkey, where he was
expected to attend the inauguration ceremony of the recently elected Turkish
President, and has called for an urgent meeting of the National Security and
Defense Council regarding the current situation in the country and Russian open
military aggression.
National Security and Defense Council has confirmed the fact of Russian
military invasion of Ukraine and stated that Russian forces and the terrorists
have started their counteroffensive, probably attempting to create a land link
between the occupied Crimea and the mainland Ukraine. Thus, the situation remains
tense, and thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are currently surrounded by the
Russian and terrorist forces.
UN Security Council has held an urgent meeting regarding the
deterioration of the situation in Ukraine and Russian military aggression. The
meeting was held on the request of Lithuania, which officials called the
Russian actions an open war against Ukraine, the same as other Baltic countries
and Poland as well.

United Kingdom representative in UN Security Council has accused Russia
of violation of the international law and of violation of Ukrainian territorial
integrity and sovereignty and stressed that Russia should stop manipulating the
facts.
US representative Samantha Power in her turn was tough and voiced sharp
criticism of Russia, declaring that US Stated Department and NATO have the
satellite images proving Russian military presence in Ukraine. Samantha Power
accused Russia in the constant manipulation of facts and spreading lies and
stated that “We should not listen to the Russia’s words but rather look at its
actions”.
Russia has issued resolution regarding the situation in Ukraine, but it
was rejected by the members of the UN Security Council.
NATO head Anders Fogh Rasmussen has stated during the Nato-Ukraine Commission
meeting held on 29 August that Russian military forces openly participate in
the military conflict happening in Eastern Ukraine. NATO calls on Russia to
respect the international rules and law and its duties towards the world and to
stop supporting the terrorists in Eastern Ukraine with people and weapons, said
Mr. Rasmussen. NATO totally supports Ukraine and is planning to deepen its
cooperation with Ukraine in the future.
Meanwhile Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has declared on
August 29 that Ukraine should end its non-bloc status and that it should
consider the option of joining NATO in the future.
US State Department is also ready to support Ukraine, according to the
statements of the President Obama. Though neither US nor NATO will support Ukraine
militarily at the current stage, but everything possible will be made in order
to resolve this crisis diplomatically. IN addition to that US will work on the
new package of the sanctions against Russia in case Russia will continue its
policies in Ukraine.
EU in its turn will also discuss the possibility of imposing the new
package of sanctions against Russia during its Summit to be held on 30 August,
stated German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who strongly condemned the actions of
Russia and demanded Putin to explain Russian military presence on the territory
of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, as Russia continued to deny its involvement in the war in Eastern
Ukraine, the satellite pictures prove the opposite. In addition to that
Ukrainian military has recently captured several Russian paratroopers who
declared that they were sent to fight in Eastern Ukraine and that they are
regular soldiers of Russian military. The “officials” of the so called Donetsk
and Luhansk People’s Republics have also approved that there are nearly 3 000
- 4 000 Russian regular soldiers fighting with the separatists against
Ukrainian military.
In addition to that, Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on the
terrorists and separatists and his soldiers in Eastern Ukraine today to create
a corridor for those Ukrainian soldiers who appeared to be surrounded. This
statement actually became a de facto a confirmation of Russian direct
involvement in the Eastern Ukrainian war.
Meanwhile, the situation in the zone of an
anti-terrorist operation remains tense, as Ukrainian soldiers are in a very
difficult position. Ukrainian officials in their turn declare that Ukraine is
ready to finally close the border with Russia.
