Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood is officially banned due to the Court’s decision

Cairo’s Court for urgent has taken decision regarding the fate of Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt on Monday, 23 September 2013.

Egypt’s oldest Islamist group recently registered as non-governmental organization is officially dissolved and banned in the country and the funds of the groups are ordered to be frozen, according to the Court’s ruling.

The trial happened after Egypt’s leftist Tagammu Party has issued a lawsuit against an Islamist group demanding their dissolution and banning.

Muslim Brotherhood was accused of the links to the militant and terrorist organizations and their activities, which is totally forbidden in the country according to the law. All the NGO’s and groups affiliated to the militant groups and connected to their activities should be disbanded and their funds frozen and arrested.

Thus the Administrative Court has issued the ruling to officially ban Muslim Brotherhood and all the organizations derived from it. Special committee was also formed in order to administer the frozen funds of the group until any appeal would be issued.

It is also worth mentioning that Egypt’s State Commissioners Authority responsible of advising the government on the legal issues has recommended the oldest Islamist organization in Egypt to be dissolved and banned. These recommendations were related to the 2002 Law 84 which stipulates any non-governmental group or organization connected to the militant groups and their activities must be banned in the country.

We would remind here that Muslim Brotherhood which was officially banned during Hosni Mubarak rule and got an opportunity to participate in a country’s political life after January 25 Revolution in 2011 was officially registered as a non-governmental organization in March 2013.

Though after the security forces have dispersed pro-Morsy and Islamist sit-ins in Cairo and the wave of violence erupted in the country with the attacking of the security and police stations, terrorizing the locals, plundering the destroying the churches and properties of Copts and a terrible wave of terrorist activities in Sinai with the attacks of the armed and polices facilities and personnel on a daily basis Egypt’s interim government launched a crackdown against the Islamist group.

Thousands of the members of Muslim Brotherhood have been arrested including the group’s leaders and high ranking figures, such as Mohamed Badie, Khairat El-Shater and many others. All of them are currently in the prison facing the court trials accused of inciting the violence against their opponents.

Mohamed Morsy, who hailed fom Muslim Brotherhood, has also standing the trial in several court cases, including his links to Hamas and the case of escaping the prison during January 25 Revolution in 2011. He is being held at an undisclosed location since his ouster on 3 July 2013.

Thus the decision of Cairo’s Administrative Court has put Egypt’s 85-years old Islamist organization into an unofficial status. The group, banned during long years under Hosni Mubarak and registered officially as NGO only in March 2013, is banned again.

As for the Muslim Brotherhood group, its official representatives stated the group will file an appeal within ten days.
