Hazem El-Beblawy, Egypt's interim Prime Minister |
Egypt’s interim Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawy has announced on 7
August during the press conference of the government that the recently taken
decision to disperse pro-Morsy sit-ins in Cairo is still in power.
We would remind that at the beginning of the month Egypt’s Cabinet has
delegated the functions of restoring the order and fighting with the “terrorism”
in Egypt and particularly in its capital Cairo to the Interior Ministry, and
Egypt’s Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim made an announcement calling for the
Muslim Brotherhood’s supporters staging the sit-ins and the protests to leave the
protests area, or the security forces will take all the legal measures to
disperse the protests. Safety and security was promised to those who will
willingly leave the protests points.
But the supporters of Egypt’s deposed President Mohamed Morsy and of
Muslim Brotherhood rejected this call and remained in the squares continuing
their protests and sit-ins demanding reinstatement of Mohamed Morsy as Egypt’s
President.
Egypt’s Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawy also stated that the sit-ins
haven’t been dispersed yet due to the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and also
regarding the fact that the national reconciliation talks between Egypt’s
current government and Muslim Brotherhood have been held in Cairo and attended
by numerous international politicians and diplomats including USA, EU and Gulf countries.
But on Wednesday Egypt’s Presidency
has officially declared that the reconciliation talks with Muslim Brotherhood’s
representatives have failed due to the demands of Islamist forces to reinstate
Morsy as the state’s President and their inflexibility in the negotiations.
Rabaa Al-Adaweya Square in Cairo |
Thus after this official statement Egypt’s Prime Minister announced that
the government still plans to disperse the sit-ins in Cairo’s Rabaa Al-Adaweya
Square in Nasr City and Al-Nahda Square in Giza if the protesters will not
leave them.
Prime Minister repeated that those who will leave the pro-Morsy sit-ins
will be granted safety and security and will be even provided with the free
transportation. None of them will be subjected to any arrests or investigations
excluding those responsible for violent attacks and crimes.
In addition to that Hazem El-Beblawy warned Muslim Brotherhood
protesters and their leadership of using the violence to confront the security
forces and promised such actions will be met with force. But he expressed the
hope that the violence will be avoided.
Egyptian supporters of the deposed President
Mohamed Morsy and Muslim Brotherhood have been protesting and holding sit-ins
in Cairo and other Egyptian cities nationwide since 28 June. Numerous violent
clashes broke out between the rival protesters’ groups or between the
protesters and security forces have been taken more than 200 lived and hundreds
injured as well.
