Hosni Mubarak during his trial |
In addition to that the Court has also rejected all the civil complaints
filled by the plaintiff’s lawyers explaining their decision with the remark
that those complaints should be referred to the courts of the proper
jurisdiction and not to the Cairo Criminal Court. This decision was met with
critic of the defendant’s lawyers who have been chanting for purging Egyptian
judiciary.
We would remind that ex-President of Egypt who ruled the country during almost 30 years faced his trial in June 2012 and was accused of failing to protect the peaceful demonstrators during 18 days of January 25 Revolution. Hosni Mubarak along with his former Interior Minister Habib El-Adly and six his aides, high ranking officials, received the life in prison sentence.
In addition to that Hosni Mubarak together with his sons Gamal and Alaa
is facing another trial and accused of corruption and also for gas trades with
Israel with the below-market prices.
Hosni Mubarak was granted the retrial in January 2013 due to the
procedural irregularities during the first trial and the additional evidences
and materials appeared in the case.
Though during Saturday’s Court’s session the trial was adjourned till
Monday, 10 June 2013.
Meanwhile the minor clashes happened in front of the Court’s building as
the supporters of Hosni Mubarak clashed with the families of those protesters
killed and injured during the revolution. Mubarak’s supporters have been
reportedly holding the posters with the pictures of Egypt’s ex-President and
chanting for his release. The members of the slain revolutionaries’ families
have been chanting for the justice and holding the pictures of their killed and
injured relatives.
