Anti-Muslim Brotherhood protests planned in Egypt

Nearly sixteen oppositional political powers in Egypt have announced they will organize the protests against the so called “Brotherhoodization” of Egypt on the second anniversary of January 25 Revolution, which toppled Egypt’s long standing President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

Among those powers planning to participate in the marches are Constitution Party, Popular Current, Kefaya Movement, April 6 the Democratic Front, Free Egyptians Party, Socialist Popular Alliance, Maspero Youth Cioalition, Nasserist Karama Party and others.

The marches are called to mark the second anniversary of the January 25 Revolution and to protest against Islamists’ domination of politics in Egypt. “No to the Muslim Brotherhood domination, the Revolution continues” – is the main slogan of the planned marches.

Anti-Brotherhood protests are expected to take place at Cairo’s Tahrir Square and also in all the governorates of Egypt. The protesters plan to gather and march to the governor’s offices in each governorate and announce that they reject the rule of Muslim Brotherhood and demand the fight for the Revolutionary goals to be continued.

The protesters stressed they do not have high expectations regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held in April, as Muslim Brotherhood’s forces already control most of Egypt’s political scenes and authorities. Thus the revolution should continue, added the protesters.

The protests are expected to start after Friday prayers. In Cairo there are three main marches planned. The people might gather in Maadi, in Shubra and in Imbaba and to head then to Tahrir Square. Their demands are fighting for the goals of Revolution, social justice and state of law and rejection of the Muslim Brotherhood’s rule.
