UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly for the Palestinian bid today,
on 29 November 2012, recognizing the state of Palestine within the 1967 borders
and granting Palestine the status of non-member observer state.
The resolution recognizing Palestinian state was approved by nearly two
thirds of the General Assembly which consists from 193 members. 138
countries-members of the UN General Assembly voted “yes”, 9 countries voted
against the bid and 41 countries abstained.
The Palestinian flag was raised behind the Palestinian delegation
together with the flags of other states, members of UN General Assembly.
This success is very important for Palestine as it can be the next step
for the future independence of Palestine. It was also a big victory of Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbdas, who said regarding the issues of today’s vote that he
promised Palestinians to bring the “birth certificate” for their country.

Palestinian victory at the UN General Assembly is already considered
being the big defeat for US diplomacy and Israeli policies. US officials have
already criticized such a decision of the Assembly, Israel in its turn declared
this step is a step backwards and could worsen the situation with the
negotiations.
Mahmoud Abbas said that this vote was the last chance to save the
two-states solution.
