Egypt’s President will have the authority to declare war

According to the statement of Waheed Abdel-Meguid, an official spokesperson of Egypt’s Constituent Assembly which is tasked with drafting Egypt’s new Constitution, the right to declare war should be President’s authority under the terms of the future Egyptian Constitution.

Such a practice is common for most of the countries, and President’s war-making powers are enshrined in the Constitutions of the stated throughout the world, stated Abdel-Meguid.

But he also added that such a decision regarding the authority to declare war taken by Constituent Assembly was a result of consultations within the Assembly and with Egypt’s SCAF (Supreme Council of the Armed Forces).

Recall that the final draft of Egypt’s future national charter is expected to be finalized till the end of September. The draft of the Constitution will be then presented to Egyptians and approved after nationwide public referendum.
