Mohamed Morsy, Egypt's President |
Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsy will visit Iran’s capital Teheran at the
end of this month to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit. According to
the statement of Iran’s Vice-President Ali Akbar Salehi, made before Morsy’s
visit to Tehran, Egypt and Iran are willing to restore the diplomatic
relationships between the two countries.
The relationships between those two countries were broken during the
last 30 years. The reason of worsening the relations was that Egypt hosted Shah
ousted during Iranian Islamic Revolution in 1979. Another reason was the
signing of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, while Iran is
traditionally hostile towards Jewish state.
Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran's Vice-President |
Salehi told in his interview to Egypt’s states-run Al-Ahram news source
that Iran is expecting to establish the relationships of friendship and brotherhood
with Egypt. Egypt is the cornerstone of the Middle Eastern region and has the
special status in the Arab world, so Iran is willing to establish the
diplomatic relationships with the most populous Arabic country. Teheran hopes
to restore normal and stable relations with Cairo in the closest future.
According to the statement of Iran’s
Vice-President the restoration of the relations depends now only on some protocol
measures. The latest developments in Egypt and January 25 Revolution changed
the political arena in the country and Egypt’s international relationships and
policy too, so Iran will welcome Mohamed Morsy in Teheran during the NAM summit
later this month and is expecting the normal diplomatic relations will be
restored between Egypt and Iran.
