Egypt’s
Intelligence Chief Morad Mowafi admitted that Egypt has received the early
warnings from Intelligence office about the possibility of the Sunday deadly
attack in Sinai which left 17 Egyptian policemen and soldiers killed and 7
wounded.
After the
emergency meeting with Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsy Intelligence chief
stressed that this incident should not raise any questions regarding the
efficiency of the security forces in Sinai. He confirmed that Egyptian side had
warnings and information about the attack; they also have the detailed
information about the terrorist group which committed the terrible attack, but
they never imagined that a Muslim would kill a Muslim during Ramadan on the
time of praying and breaking the fast, according to the Morad Mowafi’s
statement. Egypt also received the numerous warnings about the possible
terrorist attack on the border from Israel.
Muslim
Brotherhood and Islamists forces accused Israeli side in the attack, but Egypt
and Israel estimate that the attack was carried out by the terrorist group
which is the part of the global jihadist networking emerged in Sinai in the
recent months. Military officials stressed that there are around 1,500 – 2,000
terrorists currently based on the territory of Sinai who belong to the various
terrorist organizations, among the Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda cells and the groups
based in Gaza.
