Saudi Arabia: another Shia mosque hit by suicide bomber

Another bomb explosion carried out by a suicide bomber hit Saudi Arabia’s Shia mosque, located in the city of Dammam on Friday, 29 May, during the noon prayers, when the mosque was full of people.

An explosion reportedly went off in the parking area in front of the mosque, when security forces and volunteers securing the mosque entrance stopped a suspicious man attempting to enter the mosque. The man was dressed up as a woman and was prevented to enter the building, so he detonated the bomb right at the parking place.

Syrian government forces attacked ISIS targets in the besieged city of Palmyra

After the ancient city of Palmyra was taken by the radical jihadist Islamic State (ISIS), known as Daesh in Arabic world, Syrian government aircraft forces have attacked the targets of ISIS in the city and neighborhood, according to the Syrian Armed Forces official information.

ISIS advanced to the ancient city of Palmyra at the end of the week, and the city fell to the jihadists on Thursday, 21 May. ISIS militants have tortured and executed hundreds of local citizens, mostly children, women and elderly people, according to Syrian TV and reports of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Saudi Arabia: Mosque bombing left at least 21 people dead

A massive explosion hit the Shia Ali Ibn Abi Taleb Mosque, located in one of the villages of the Saudi Arabia eastern province of Gatif (Al-Qadeeh), left at least 21 people killed and more than 90 people wounded, according to Saudi Health Ministry.

The attack occurred during the Friday noon prayers, when the mosque was packed with the praying people. An explosion hit the mosque almost at the beginning of the prayer, said the eye witnesses. The terrorist attack was carried out by a young suicide bomber, who was wearing the explosives laden belt under his clothes and detonated the bomb while being inside of the mosque.

Egypt: former President Mohamed Morsi and other Muslim Brotherhood members sentenced to death

Cairo Criminal Court has issued on Saturday, 16 May, a preliminary death sentence to Egypt’s Islamist backed President Mohamed Morsi, who was ousted as a result of the massive protests held in June and July 2013 and is currently facing trials on several charges. Mohamed Morsi is the first Egyptian President who received the death sentence and can be executed if the court will confirm this verdict.

Mohamed Morsi was sentenced to death in the so called Natroun prison break case and accused along with other 105 co-defendants of jailbreak, murder and attempted murder, looting prison’s weapons depots, damaging prison’s buildings and setting fire on them and releasing prisoners, among them many members of Muslim Brotherhood, Gaza based Hamas movement, Lebanon based Hezbollah and other jihadists and criminals held in the Natroun prison, located in Northern Sinai. The jailbreak occurred in the wake of January 25 Revolution 2011.

Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak and his sons jailed for corruption

Cairo Criminal Court has declared its verdict in the corruption case of Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, on Saturday, 9 May. Hosni Mubarak was declared guilty in the graft case and received three years prison term, while his two sons received four years in prison respectively.

The case centers on the embezzlement of $ 14 million of state money aimed for renovation of the presidential palaces. It was stated that this amount of money was used by former Egypt’s President and his sons for renovation of their private residences in Cairo and on the Red Sea Coast, in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, as well as the family owned farm.

Egypt: Armed Forces military operation in Sinai killed 29 militants

Mohamed Samir, official spokesperson of Egypt’s Armed Forces, has issued an official statement regarding the latest developments of the state Armed Forces raid carried out in Northern Sinai region during 20-30 April.

According to the official military statement Egypt’s security forces and army have carried out military campaigns in Rafah, El-Arish and Sheikh Zuweid areas, targeting numerous militants’ bases and hideouts and damaging at least 51 locations and militants’ facilities.

At least 29b alleged militants were reportedly killed as a result of the military raids in North Sinai, while 133 jihadists were reported to be arrested.
